The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Bloated, self-important, self-indulgent. WAY TOO LONG and takes itself too seriously.
Can’t deny the graphics though.

Today's Tagalog lesson of the day. Also: On MSG.
VETSIN: it means MSG in Tagalog.
There is an indigenous word for MSG in Tagalog. So that means, it’s been used long enough in the Philippines not only for the word for MSG to not be derived from English, but it was also not derived from Spanish. It would appear that Filipinos have been using MSG in their food for centuries.
And so have Chinese people, Japanese people, and everyone across...

Interesting…
Oh, so many nuggets of truth. I’m pretty sure I’m going to be a really tough parent. It’s only out of love!
The power of music.
Listening to Kid Cudi’s Pursuit of Happiness on repeat fills my body with a rush of inexplicable ecstasy. It makes me feel like everything’s going to be all right, even though ironically, the song is about being kind of lost in life.

Angry Mac and Cheese
These were leftovers from eating at Henry’s Pub on Bowditch and Durant in Berkeley. Of course, it looked better in its original presentation.
“Angry Mac and Cheese,” its claim to fame being that it contains sambal oelek. That’s a type of chili sauce.
I thought this dish was blogworthy not because of its taste (although it was pretty tasty), but the fact that it contains...

More thoughts on Better Off Ted
Now that I’ve finished both seasons of Better Off Ted, I have some more thoughts on it.
- The first season was definitely better. The quality trickled down as the episodes went on.
- Linda, the “love interest”, came off more annoying than anything else, especially when compared to the awesomeness that was Portia di Rossi. There should have been more power characters like...

Writing resolution.
So, I was going to blog on how I failed my resolution to write an hour a day yesterday, except that I didn’t fail. I actually spent several hours yesterday writing out a little comedy routine which I performed last night at Bindlestiff Studio’s Open Mic night (Wordy Word Wednesdays). My first time doing “stand up”! I guess I put stand up in quotations because it...
Resolution correction.
Let’s make that
3. Read two books a month. (non-school related). I’m going to be commuting to and from San Francisco at least two times a week, so I’m going to have a lot of time to read on the BART. Come on, Joy! No excuses.
Two New Years Resolutions.
1. After checking my email, FB, Tumblr, twitter, etc. MUST TURN COMPUTER OFF. Unless I’m writing something, ie a script.
2. Write an hour every day. No exceptions. (I failed today. But tomorrow is a new day.)
Oh, what the hey. A third resolution.
3. Read one new (non-school related) book a month and blog about it. (Inspired by April’s resolution.)
That’s not too ambitious, is...

Dreams on Spec, a documentary following 3 screenwriters as they try to get their scrips made.
Overall, it was just extremely depressing. Only one out of the three was able to get his made, but he had to give a “co-written by” credit to the director who only changed a few lines here and there and cut like 15 pages. I’m glad I’ve decided to go into TV writing over film...

Beans.
I’ve hated beans since I was little. Something about the texture. So mushy, so chewy, so… unnecessary.
This, of course, excludes fresh beans on the pod, like green beans, long beans, haricots verts, etc etc. which i LOVE and i can’t get enough of. In fact, a few days ago I stir fried some green beans for lunch and just had that.
(above: stock picture from wikipedia, NOT my...
Okay guys, no fooling this time.
Writers write. And let’s be honest, I haven’t been doing that lately. New Years Resolution: write an hour a day. Starting tomorrow.

Beyond Golden Clouds: the Asian Art museum’s exhibit on Japanese screens.
At first, I was like, meh, but as I went through the exhibit, the more I appreciated the art. Museum, you did your job. You turned apathy into appreciation.
They had some really beautiful screens, really. Some of the modern ones were especially gorgeous. I’m glad I saw it. I learned a lot about the history of...

The King’s Speech, starring Colin Firth.
It was like a bro-mantic comedy set in wartime England. With royalty.
Needless to say after that description, It was AWESOME! Totally deserves the 95% rating it has on Rotten Tomatoes. Just the right mix of funny and serious, uplifting and true, and the entire cast performed superbly. Colin Firth especially. Sheesh! Grade A actor, he better get...

Today's realization.
Sharp cheddar cheese is too sharp for me!
…at least for quesadillas, where I have nothing else to taste but the cheese.
Anonymous asked: "Aywan ko" has more of an "I don't care" kind of tone to it, also it is more informal and spoken with friends/people who know each other than "Hindi ko alam." which you would use more in a formal situation, followed by a "po" for respect. :)
I believe English has different ways of saying the same thing too. "I don't know",...

Tagalog of the day.
There are two common ways to say “I don’t know” in Filipino.
Aywan ko and Hindi ko alam.
But there’s only ONE common way to say “I know” in Filipino.
Alam ko.
I wonder why there needed to be two ways to say “I don’t know” and only one way to say “I know.” I guess people used to say “I don’t know” so much that...

… has become a automatic set of tasks that I need to accomplish. Go to the dentist, get a haircut, get threaded, see at least 4 different groups of high school friends, catch up with TV shows, go to the bank for my mom, go to the post office for my mom, go to the shipping store to recycle boxes and packing material, make dinner for family, have dinner with family, go shopping, wash dishes,...

Tangled! It was awesome. I appreciated how clean and beautiful the graphics were, the uniqueness of the lead characters… I don’t think any other Disney princesses have been artists before, and I think her personality was definitely quirkier and more well defined than many other Disney princesses (Snow White comes to mind here).
What I appreciated most was how developed the Prince...

Better Off Ted. It’s hilarious! The actors are spot on, the satire is sharp and witty, and lord knows we needed a show critiquing capitalism and corporate America. So sad about its untimely demise last May. This show just needed more publicity. My sister and I watched it on Netflix. We didn’t even know what network it had been on.
It reminds me of Arrested Development, not just...

Oh Aguinaldo, why did you have to have Bonifacio killed? That was pretty messed.
On the real.
Way to backstab, man.
